UGD is going ‘hybrid’

University Goce Delcev–Stip has brought the decision to introduce a hybrid instruction model this academic year: hybrid courses refer to classes where there is a carefully planned blend of both traditional classroom instruction and online learning activities.

The university takes advantage of the most sophisticated and up-to-date IT solutions in the implementation of the instruction, and has been singled out as a successful example of online learning in the country. In order to evaluate the validity of this the university conducted a survey on the quality of the online instruction as well as the students’ opinion of its effectiveness. The results show that the students are generally satisfied with the online instruction and their academic outcomes this semester. In order to provide quality education, we will resort to a combination of on-campus classes and online learning activities.

-We reached this decision because we have the option to utilize both ways of teaching: classroom instruction and online instruction. We think that the combination of both models of instruction will bring best benefits, so part of the lectures will be held online and the tutorials will take place in traditional classroom environment. There are faculties where practical training is vital in acquiring knowledge and skills, hence they will have the advantage of classroom learning – explains the Vice-rector for teaching professor d-r Mishko Djidrov.

In accordance with the decision for ‘hybridization,’ the theoretical part of the subject-matter will be held through online classes, whereas the practical classes (tutorials – laboratory classes and clinical practice) will be held through the hybrid model of instruction, which means that some classes which have the possibility for classroom instruction will resort to traditional instruction, and those which can be held online will be conveyed via "Internet-ready" classes. Exams, semi-finals and other forms of assessment will also be conveyed through the hybrid model: some of them will be online and some will invole classroom assessment depending on the peculiarities of the subject-matter and the size of the group to be assessed.

University Goce Delcev has developed a broad and integrated electronic learning system. In light of recent needs, the professors of the Faculty of Computer Science, the Faculty of Educational Sciences and the IT center have invested their knowledge and experience to provide support for all the faculties and institutes.
